Having been around for over four years as Sonic Spriters Network, we felt that Christmas 2007 would be the time for a little change. Sonic Showcase Network will continue to bring you the best tutorials on pixel art, but will also be your first stop for personal, industry and community news on all artforms, as well as tutorials and current site-services being expanded to cover all artistic mediums.
Feel free to e-mail the team a tutorial you think we havn't done, or need to cover and also feel free to post your own artwork in SSN's own Gallery via our SSMB Forum affiliation.

Just to firstly kick you off. We have a new interview with profession video game 3D Artist Greg Pennick on SSN's Editorials section. We be talking to da industry just for 'you. Okay a few changes with SSN which should get you all excited. First of all GrooveWatch will make it's own standalone appearance this week at 8pm Friday night (GMT/London time, set your clocks accordingly) where we'll be dealing with Huepow00's work as his Groovewatch was left unrecorded after a technical difficult with Tiger's Eye last month. | Art Theft Legalisation!

Recently an issue was brought to my attention by GoldBlood on the SSN forums. In the United States is a new law on legislation of artwork being considered, which basically allows people to steal your artwork without your permission. The idea is that you can copyright artwork to yourself as long as you PAY a legal governmental or artistic body for the copyright. Any artwork that you DON'T copyright with your hard earned cash instantly becomes available to any and all people who would seek to use it without your consent...

It's something that was raised during the new Guiness World Record topic in the Announcements forum, somebody suggested the idea of SSN opening up and allowing cosplay outfits to be accepted as artwork. I never actually thought of it, but it sounds like a great project for me to get underway while I await other people's SSN contributions (Me am want to update plez Violet/Urtheart )...

[NL][NL]Nah there was no hax, tho it got everyone to look lol [NL][NL]SSN was cheated out of it's wuv by all of you failing to submit your love for us Political voting I say! XD[NL]Seriously, well done to TriPPY and Digi for their (non-kareoke) winning entry, and to T-Bird for winning the Sonic fans selection of the competition. You all did a marvelous job.[NL][NL]However I think there may be some conspiracy here ;p Each year both me and Dread have been dead last, and Dread's now lost two years in a row (Tho I lost with him this time), despite his entry being actually quite good. The song was done identically to the likeness of the original song he used, so high technically cos he even sounded the part, and the phasing was done the same way it was in the original track. Also his originality was a 4, when people who did feck all to change the lyrics also got a 4. I call some bad judging on that part.[NL][NL]Tho I do revel in glee at the fact that my song FORCED a high originality score out of the judges because it was so different I'm glad at least I got that. But where was the Lee Brotherton judging we were promised? I loved Sega comparing my song last year to a tank and a blamonge  [NL][NL]Congratulations to all contestants, myself and Dread will be doing the duff DK Rap for you all soon  [NL][NL]We just hope that next year, people don't go out their way to try and force me and Dread into a loss That was blantantly the plan for this year. It's been roughly six months since Sonic Showcase Network took over Spriters back in September, and while it had an extremely rocky start it seems to be earning the respect and usage of the members here as I hoped it would. While it was a bad move on my part to merge Creative Portal and SSN at the time I did (I was two days from going to holiday in Japan which lasted two weeks, bad time to start refreshing things) and mistakes made, overall the process has worked wonders for the SSMB's artistic spirit. So I'd firstly like to take the oppertunity to thank all the members here for their participation and for their feedback to improve the SSN forums, even during the time I took over and was overwhelmed by the amount I took on.  ...
