Skirt Modelling - Joe the Echidnafox
Okay, now to begin a long multi-part tutorial on how to make custom Sonic style sprites. These tutorials will focus on modelling only, as we already have tutorials on how to shade.
Next, we'll continue with clothes. The size of the shirt or jacket will depend on which style you intend your sprites to be in. The Genesis styles use bigger sprites than the GBA styles, so the Genesis heads will be bigger. This tutorial will use the size of Advance and Battle sprites. We'll be making shirts, jackets, and dresses in this tutorial.

First of all, the shirt or jacket's shape can depend on wether or not the shirt hangs loose, or is a tight fit, or anywhere in between. If the shirt is a tight fit, make it of a similar shape to the body. If it hangs loose, make it thicker than the body and hang more, but still in a similar shape. Also, make an opening in the middle, or buttons and a seperation line for jackets. Also, add an indent below the head, and an optional collar on the upper middle portion of the shirt or jacket. Also note that for most females, tight fitting shirts still follow the shape of the body as well as the breasts, but loose hanging shirts follow the upper part, then hang from there. Females who did not hit puberty yet follow the same rules as males.
Now, sleeves depend on the shirt or jacket. Long sleeves, like shirts themselves, can be a similar shape to the arms for tight fitting, or ticker than the arms for loose hanging. Also, make them thicker near the hand, and make them a little more curved than the arm. Short sleeves are like long sleeves, but leave most of the arm showing. No sleeves basically have an indent where the arm comes out of the shirt/jacket, and the arm is fully shown.

Also, if you decide to make a dress for female characters, make them similar to males, but make them taller, and make the bottom portion pointed and extend out from the rest, and make the bottom flat(Which also depends on the dress).
Also, add a bra to female characters if the shirt/jacket/dress does not fully cover where the bra would go. This once again, does not apply to younger females who have not reached puberty yet.
Now, at this point, we'll start adding in designs or details. These all depend on the character. Also of note is that you can try adding in wrinkles if you feel like it.
Finally, clean up any uneeded pixels, fix minor things, and start shading, and you'll have your own shirts, jackets, and dresses!
