Model Editting - Limbs - Shadow Urtheart

Welcome to the Model Editing Tutorial. This tutorial will show you how to manipulate an existing Pixel Art piece, add features from other Pixel Art pieces, and modify a piece to give it more of a unique style. Please Note that you should never edit a Pixel Art piece that has been created by another Artist, only use sprites and Pixel Art pieces from within commercially released games. This tutorial has been created by Shadow Urtheart and is copyright to him.

Limbs have much more freedom than the body because they are more mobile. However you will need at least the body done to be able to work on them. I will continue to use the model from the other tutorials.

Again you need to be aware which movements are possible. In this picture both the leg and arm are impossible. The leg, although imported without any changes (except colour) looks bad because a leg can not twist that much. The arm is an example of a bad edit. The arm has been rotated by 180 degrees and hence the tumb is on the wrong side of the hand, making it look wierd. You need to actually consider what a body can do with its arms, they can't bend backwards, nor can the do big twists.

It's a good idea to keep the hand or feet on the attaching limb to make sure that the limbs will work once a new hand or foot is put on. As you can see here I have put on all the limbs with original hands and feet simply to make sure they all fit and look correct, and in this case they work. Remember in what order they need to go in, e.g. the back arm needs to go behind the body, while legs need to go infront of the body and more importantly the tail.

Notice than when the arm is put on that it goes over is head spike, what if you don't want that to happen? Simple answer, keep a backup of the spike to the side and the put your arm on. Once the arm is on, past the backup spike over the arm, and viola, the arm is under the spike. You may also notice that it covers part of the hand, so this may need to be done at a later state (once you have finished the hand)

Once your happy with you model recolour and delete and hands and feet you don't want. He is starting to look complete now. Just two more sections to do.
